Easing Into the Carnivore Diet

Many people struggle to transition to the carnivore diet, so use this simple three step plan to help you ease into the carnivore diet, improve health and enjoy the process.

Carnivore Diet and Eczema

My eczema had gotten bad. It looked like I was wearing red socks when I wasn’t wearing any. I avoided wearing shorts, because I was too embarrassed. The itching was constant. So when I heard that some people had gotten relief from their eczema by the carnivore diet, I wanted to know more.

The carnivore diet can be used as an elimination diet for eczema. There are many plant antigens that might affect eczema and by going carnivore all that gets avoided. Eating only animal sourced products is the carnivore diet. It’s more than just an all meat diet. So it includes things like beef, fish, poultry, pork, eggs, cheese, cream, butter and more. 

January is world carnivore month. Many people will try the carnivore diet for thirty days. I’m planning to do a slower transition. I’ll take longer. Abruptly changing eating habits doesn’t sound like a recipe for success. I’m going to take about ninety days instead.

Intermittent Fasting Reduced the Eczema

My focus is on reducing eczema naturally. That’s where I’ll start with the diet. What foods are most likely to be affecting eczema. I’ll take those foods off the diet right away. As much as I like these foods, I hate eczema more. Here is a list of foods that often are associated with eczema: cow’s milk, peanuts, soy, tomatoes, gluten, citrus fruits, eggs, fish, and canned foods. 

Will eczema finally go all away? Will my efforts make any difference at all? I’m willing to give it a fair try and here is why. 

On a three day fast I noticed that eczema reduced a lot. It was noticeable. And it reduced everywhere that I had eczema. I had no new areas of eczema during the three day fast. That convinced me to look into how food affects eczema. So I am doing the carnivore diet because of that.

Dr. Saladino relates how his eczema went away in two to three weeks on the carnivore diet. “Clearly there were plants in my diet that were triggering my autoimmunity,” he said.

I Start a Food Journal

I began an easy food journal. I just noted what I ate. I soon noticed that I reacted poorly to wheat, corn, peanuts, and pecans. So I will be avoiding these foods right away.

I use a simple composition book to write down what I eat and when I eat it. I keep it near the dinner table. That works well for me since dinner is my first meal of the day. I skip breakfast and usually skip lunch. I’ll also use my smart phone to take pictures of my meals or make notes.  

There is an adaptation period when switching to a carnivore diet. I plan to ease into it. But for people that go too quickly can expect some of the following:

Diarrhea or constipation, brain fog, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, food cravings

So my next step is to increase meat consumption and to immediately avoid foods that trigger eczema. I’ll do this through January to see how that goes.

Many people also notice that there is weight loss on the carnivore diet. That would also be great.

Is this causing your eczema?

Dr. Kenneth Berry, M.D. reveals a little known cause of eczema. In many cases people’s eczema completely got better or improved eighty to ninety percent. Reduce or eliminate eczema by removing many inflammatory plant chemicals like salicylates.

Helpful Hints

Eat to what naturally satisfies you. This is how to protect against excess cravings. This is not the time to cut calories. So eat until you are full.

Commit to do it. Knowing the reasons to go carnivore is essential. Stay focused on your purpose. Stick to it. Commit to thirty to ninety days to give it a fair try.

Avoid judging yourself if you go off the plan. It’s common to do that when changing meal habits. Just note what led up to it and prepare yourself in the future. Don’t judge.

Since there are no carbohydrates in meat, fat becomes the new energy source. This is contrary to a lot of public opinion, so hear me out. Fatty foods are very tasty and filling. They satisfy you for hours and hours. Fat gives you a long sustained burn. Fatty meats include ribeye, salmon, ground beef, ribs and more.

Meat freezes well, so stock up. Get boxes of frozen beef patties, hot dogs, bacon and more. Can you buy direct from a local farmer. Look out for sales, use coupons, and dehydrate.

Keep some meat snacks on hand that are convenient. That’s your go to when you have a craving. You can have boiled eggs, deli meat, hot dogs, jerky.

Avoid temptation. Get the carbohydrates out of your pantry. Avoid sugar, sodas and sauces.

Be patient. It is a process. Take the time to transition to the carnivore diet. 

This is where salt is your friend. Add salt if there is constipation. Also supplement with magnesium and potassium.

Variety will make it interesting. Try different meats, different cuts and different methods. You can do beef, chicken, poultry, pork, fish, lobster, alligator, game, etc. Keep it interesting.

There are so many different spice blends these days. Grab up a few. Make it interesting. Just watch out for added sugar. Spicing it up will go a long way to making this a success.

Let your steak rest a few minutes before you cut into it. Cut into a hot steak if you want dry meat. If you enjoy a juicy steak, let it rest for a few minutes. That goes for other cuts too. Rest the meat so it isn’t dry.
